Summary:
Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's cell phone scandal continues to escalate as Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley puts a hold on State Department appointments. Grassley continues the email probe by seeking answers from a former aide of Hillary in order to help determine which of the incriminating emails should be made public. By blocking nominations for Thomas Shannon as the secretary of political affairs, and David Robinson for assistant secretary for conflict and stabilization operations and coordinator for reconstruction, Grassley has put Hillary and her representatives in a difficult position. Hillary's cell phone scandal is continuing to way down her campaign and some believe it has become a "politically motivated attempt to undermine the Democratic presidential candidate's campaign for the White House.
Question: Should Hillary and her staff continue to wage war against the army of lawyers holding her campaign back in the name of "protection of privacy", or simply give into their requests for sensitive information and stay focused on her quest for presidency?

I don't think Hillary should wage war necessarily. I think that this cell phone scandal shouldn't be affecting the campaign at all, and Hillary should explain that this is unconstitutional to use this scandal against her. As such, she should demand that her privacy be upheld, and otherwise continue her campaign. She should make it clear that this is an attempt to undermine her, and that it is therefore illegal in nature.
ReplyDeleteHilary should give in to the demands of the government but that's only due to a moral standpoint. She realizes that if the american public were to know the truth than she would probably end up losing the election anyway. If she continues to play runaway some other big scandal will come up and everyone will seemingly forget about it. If she has morals she will admit to what she did, but if she is smart she will keep running waiting for her moment.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the Republicans are dragging this "email scandal" out in order to undermine her political campaign. I believe that Hillary is handling this issue properly and not allowing this to be a distraction from her campaign. She is cooperating with them and handling their questions professionally, even under the severe stress that she is. However, I am not saying that I support Hillary completely but under these circumstances I believe she is handling it the best that she can. She should continue to stay focused on the campaign and not be thrown off because then she would be giving into what the Republicans are hoping for.
ReplyDeleteI think that the scandal isn't a problem unless Hilary chooses to make it. It is clear that the Republicans are using this as a weapon against her, but I think she has been dealing with it in a civil manner. On the other hand, the scandal is holding her back in terms of the public's focus, as they choose to focus on the scandal rather on the issues she actually wants to address. What she can hope for is that there will be another scandal that comes along that will divert the public's attention.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Hilary should be waging if it's going to cost her the campaign. During this time, Hilary's focus should solely be on her campaign, because she now has less than one year until the final elections. The public is get is going to get Hilary elected, and if it means to give up waging the war, in my opinion I think she should.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say that Hillary is waging a war, as much as Republicans are waging one against her. This includes her public image and already tarnished credibility. In fact, this "scandal" belongs in the same category as the Benghazi inquiries; they're both witch hunts. There may be some truth in the claims that Hillary used an unauthorized server for her emails as secretary of state, however, is it necessary to go through each and every one of her emails just to prove this basic fact? No, I believe Hillary has the right to privacy, and does not have to submit to the Republicans' wish to find more dirt on her.
ReplyDeleteClinton needs to give in and give up the information. If she has nothing to hide then she should show us what she's hiding. This fight is not one she can win because all it is doing is delaying the inevitable and making her look bad in the public eye. Everything is going to come out eventually. If a sitting president (Nixon) can't stop it, then Neither can Hillary Clinton.
ReplyDeleteGeorge Stantaya once said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” That is what is going on. Hillary and her committee have forgotten about what happened to Nixon, and the Republicans are using this to their advantage. Hillary just needs to pull the trigger and show the public what she is hiding so another situation like Nixon does not occur. If anything this honesty might help her campaign to show that she truly does have nothing to hide and she will be seen as a more trustworthy candidate.
ReplyDeleteI feel that there is not a need for Hilary to with hold the information from the press or the people. I think the republicans are taking this one little scandal to far, they are worried about the pressure Hilary Clinton is pushing on them to change their policies. Hilary is a great candidate and shouldn't have to worry about this scandal if she is afraid of the emails then maybe she is trying to hide something from the people. However, even if the emails are harmful to her presidency she should focus on the election first then petty little scandals second.
