Summary:
In a new poll performed by Public Policy Polling, a fair percentage of Republican voters were in favor of bombing the country of Agrabah. Agrabah is a fictional land seen in the classic Disney film Aladdin. It features magic caves, genies, and flying carpets, yet 30% of Republican voters stated that they supported a bombing campaign targeted at the seemingly Islamic country. Trump's supporters were particularly dedicated to this new focus for the war against terror, with 41% supporting the imaginary campaign. Democratic voters sided against the it with 36% percent aiming to remain peaceful while 19% supported the bombing.

Questions:
What mistakes could have disrupted the results of these polls? What do these polls show us about voter knowledge regarding Middle Eastern countries? What do these polls tell us about general public opinion? Why do supporters of Donald Trump tend to favor the bombing campaign?

  1. This poll in specific shows partly how uneducated the public is as well as the way the media and polls play towards the peoples emotions. It is playing on the fear of Americans whom after seeing the Paris attack and remembering 9-11, don't want the same to happen in the United States. I believe the supporters of Trump favor the bombing campaign because Trump has grouped Muslims into one whole category as the enemy. That is also partly why he has received so much support on his ban for Muslims entering the country. The public is reacting instead of becoming educated about the current situation at hand.

  2. This shows that the public only sees things on a surface level. When people saw "Agrabah", they naturally assumed that it was a Middle Eastern country that was affiliated with the terrorist attacks. Supporters of Donald Trump tend to favor the bombing campaign because everything Trump says is very vague but can have a deadly effect. He says that the US should do something to rid of the terrorists, but he says that the solution is to ID all Muslims in America and to bomb ISIS. Everything he says are things that are so extreme that it becomes difficult for the public to see different options.

  3. This shows that the people are not informed about the middle east, and that they see all the middle eastern countries as threats…even ones that don't really exist. They don't know much about middle eastern countries and they rely on biased sources such as the media to get their information from. Also this shows that the public opinion is in favor of bombing middle eastern countries because they are afraid of the middle east in general, and they see them as a threat. Donald Trump favors bombing middle eastern countries, and people who support him would as well.

  4. These polls show how uneducated voters are in regards to Middle Eastern countries. These polls tell us that the general public is scared. What with San Bernardino and the Paris attacks, people have this negative view of the Muslim Community which is horrible. It also doesn't help that Trump, like Jen mentioned, labeled and categorized all Muslims as the enemies. He's playing on the fear american's currently have and this foolishness is hurting a whole population. All in all, this poll and polls alike show how naive, uninformed, and uneducated voter population is about this current situation.

  5. This poll just shows how uneducated some Americans voters are, and also how racist some are as well. These polls tell us that most of the public has very little knowledge about Middle Eastern countries, (and Disney for that matter). Trump's supporters favor the fictional bombing because Trump makes it seem like all Middle Eastern Countries are involved in terrorist attacks, instilling in people's minds that they should all be feared. Trump has made it sound like Muslims are the enemy, and this poll just shows us how many people believe his claims.

  6. This is a true reflection of how diverse the ideology's are of the american public. It also reflects that we have no business going into countries saying their ideology is violent or inferior when we can't differentiate between a real country and a cartoon. When we have this much blind hate in a country, it's worth looking into what causes it and potentially how it can be refuted. Also we have to ask if this was a push poll or not and if the questionnaire was baiting republicans into giving a ridiculous answer.
